External Collections

If your outstanding balance cannot be resolved through the University's internal collections process, your account will be referred to an external collection agency upon completion of the 60-day internal collections process.

Placement with an external collection agency may result in the following consequences:

• Collection fees may be added to your outstanding balance at the prevailing collection rate.
• Credit reporting, when applicable.
• If attorney services are required, the student is responsible for attorney fees, court costs, and other collection expenses permitted by law.
• Once an account is assigned to an external collection agency, MSU Internal Collections can no longer assist with collection activity or payment arrangements.

Once an account is referred to an external collection agency, all payment arrangements and account resolution activities must be handled directly with the assigned agency.

Important Registration Information

Enrollment in a payment plan with an external collection agency does not remove registration restrictions. Students will not be permitted to register for a future term until their account balance has been paid in full through the assigned agency.
